LED has been widely acknowledged as the future of lighting. LED stands for light-emitting diode. A diode is a semiconductor which converts the electrical energy produced by the movement of electrons into light.
LED offers a multitude of advantages over traditional incandescent and fluorescent lights. These include:
Long term cost savings
These can be potentially huge. Whilst incandescent lights have an average lifetime of only 800-1,500 hours, and fluorescent tubes last up to 10,000 hours, LEDs can last for up to 60,000 hours. That’s 2,500 days or almost 7 years!
Combine this with LED’s proven energy-efficiency, and running, replacement and maintenance costs are all reduced.
Health & safety
LED lights reduce the risk of injury to you and your staff, and damage to your stock.
LEDs are very durable, being made of a reinforced “unbreakable” plastic rather than glass, so the chances of them causing injury from shattering or splintering are negligible. Also, their light production is very efficient, with only minimal heat generated. This means they negate the possibility of burns and significantly reduce the threat of fire.
Unlike fluorescent tubes, LEDs are not noisy but operate silently.
LEDs will not flicker so they pose no risk to people living with epilepsy.
LEDs do not produce UV radiation meaning that they are not detrimental to human skin or other organic materials. Insects are not attracted to them, making them ideal for a food preparation /hygiene /sterile environment.
SNP’s LED products have all passed SAA and C-tick testing, and carry the appropriate certification, so you can be confident they meet the safety requirements for New Zealand and Australia.
Fluorescent tubes certainly consume less electricity than incandescent bulbs, but LEDs are far and away the most energy-efficient lighting method available, reducing the impact on the planet (and your budget!)
Fluorescent tubes contain mercury, which is extremely hazardous to both people and the planet, if not handled with great care. LEDs do not contain mercury, nor any other toxic substance.
LEDs light up as soon as an electrical current passes through them, unlike fluorescents which require time (sometimes a few minutes) and often flicker before reaching full power.
Unlike traditional lighting, switching LEDs on and off does not negatively impact the lights’ lifespan.
Fluorescent lights are notorious for their “colour profile.” Some fluorescent tubes do now use an alternative phosphorous powder to produce a warmer tone, most only produce a cold blue /white light, which is stark and unwelcoming. By contrast, LEDs offer a myriad of colours to suit virtually commercial or domestic setting.
This should be not complicated at all. SNP’s LED lights are the perfect retrofit for your existing fixtures. Our LED tubes are can be installed by making straightforward modifications to the fixtures already in place.
All of SUNVUV’s lighting comes with at least a 3-year manufacturer’s guarantee, and in some cases, it is a 5-year guarantee. Additionally, SUNVUV include the cost of labour and /or shipping during the warranties’ first year. This is superior to other warranties available, which may only cover the cost of parts.
* Please note: as is customary, a warranty is not valid in cases of negligent damage nor misuse (ie: usage where the light was not intended to perform). Full details are available upon request.
The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is arguably of greater significance than the initial purchase cost.
While the initial purchase price of an LED downlight may be many times that of a halogen, if we consider maintenance and energy costs, it can be shown that the payback point can occur within around 18 months or less depending on usage.
After this time, the consumer is actually saving money due to this initial investment. That saving and the associated reduction in carbon emissions continues every year for the (very long) life of the product.
For a faster uptake of the technology to occur, there must be a process of education with consumers, which is already starting to happen worldwide. TCO demonstration is an important tool needed to accelerate the uptake of LED technology in the community.
LED lighting is fast becoming the domestic and commercial lighting of popular choice.
We noticed on a few LED packages from other manufacturers that they had a warning about interference. The interference tests are included in the ETL, CE and UL tests.
Yes, some heat is generated by the LED diodes, but the light is designed to dissipate this heat very quickly to protect the electronics. It doesn’t feel hot under the light beam of an LED.
LEDs consume significantly less power than incandescent bulbs or halogen lamps. Up to 90% of the energy used is converted into visible light. Even so-called “energy efficient lights” are much less efficient than LEDs. LED lights have the world’s lowest power consumption and longest service life -a combination that could not be more economical.
Yes, LEDs can be used to illuminate any room just as brightly as conventional bulbs.
No, definitely not. Unlike some bulbs, which can take over a minute to build up to full brightness, LED lights shine at full brightness as soon as they are switched on.
The lifetime of an LED depends on the ambient temperature. At room temperature LEDs can operate for up to 50,000 hours lifespan. Usually the light output degrades slowly until it reaches 50% of its original output. This is considered the end of the LED’s lifetime.
